Swirled Christmas Cookies (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

01 - Unsalted butter, room temp (1 cup/226g).
02 - Granulated sugar (1 1/4 cups/250g).
03 - Large egg, room temp (1).
04 - Almond extract (2 teaspoons).
05 - Vanilla bean paste or extract (1 teaspoon).
06 - All-purpose flour (3 cups/390g).
07 - Cornstarch (1 teaspoon).
08 - Baking powder (1 teaspoon).
09 - Fine salt (1 teaspoon).
10 - Christmas nonpareil sprinkles (1 cup).
11 - Green gel food coloring.
12 - Red gel food coloring.

# Instructions:

01 - Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
02 - Mix in egg, almond extract and vanilla until combined.
03 - Add flour, cornstarch, baking powder and salt until just mixed.
04 - Divide into thirds, leave one plain, color others red and green.
05 - Roll each color thin, stack and roll into spiral log.
06 - Roll log in nonpareil sprinkles to coat outside.
07 - Cut 1/3 inch slices and bake at 350°F for 12-14 minutes.

01 - Can be made ahead and frozen.
02 - Use gel coloring for best results.
03 - Keep dough chilled for easy handling.
