Heat 1/2 cup sugar and water over medium-low until sugar dissolves. Bring to gentle boil then remove from heat.

Add cranberries to hot syrup and stir. Let sit 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Use strainer to remove cranberries from syrup. Spread on parchment-lined baking sheet.

Sprinkle remaining 1/2 cup sugar over cranberries and gently toss to coat.

Transfer to wire rack and let dry for 1 hour.
