Easiest Homemade Apple Butter (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

01 - 46 ounces unsweetened applesauce
02 - 3/4 cup granulated cane sugar
03 - 3/4 cup brown sugar
04 - 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
05 - 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
06 - 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
07 - Pinch of ground cloves
08 - Pinch of salt

# Instructions:

01 - Add all of the ingredients to a slow cooker. Cook on low for 8-10 hours, stirring occasionally, until the applesauce has turned a caramel color.
02 - Carefully ladle the mixture into a blender (or use an immersion blender), and blend until smooth. Be very careful during this step, as the apple butter will be extremely hot. Follow your blender's manufacturer instructions when blending hot liquids.
03 - Return the blended apple butter to the slow cooker. Place the lid on the slow cooker, leaving it slightly ajar to allow steam to escape. Cook on high for another 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and becomes dark brown.
04 - If canning, ladle hot apple butter into hot, sanitized jars, and process in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes (adjust based on altitude). If not canning, allow the apple butter to cool for a few hours, then ladle into clean jars and refrigerate.
