Chop the fresh broccoli florets into small pieces. Optionally, steam them lightly for 2-3 minutes if softer broccoli is preferred.

In a large bowl, combine the chopped broccoli, shredded cheese, flour, eggs, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.

Using your hands, shape small portions of the mixture into patties, approximately 2-3 inches in diameter.

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add just enough oil to cover the bottom of the skillet.

Place a few fritters in the skillet, being careful not to overcrowd them. Fry for about 3-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.

Transfer the cooked fritters to a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil.

Continue frying batches until all the mixture is used. Add more oil to the skillet as needed. Serve warm, alone or with a favorite dipping sauce.
