Best Mashed Potatoes Recipe (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

01 - 3 pounds potatoes (russet or Yukon Gold), peeled and chunked.
02 - 3 garlic cloves.
03 - 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, plus more for serving.
04 - 1 cup whole milk.
05 - 1 1/2 teaspoons sea salt, plus more for cooking water.
06 - Fresh ground black pepper.
07 - 1/4 to 1/2 cup sour cream (optional).
08 - Chopped fresh chives for garnish.

# Instructions:

01 - Place potatoes and garlic in large pot, cover with cold water by 1 inch. Add salt. Bring to boil then reduce to medium and cook 15-20 minutes until tender.
02 - Drain potatoes and return to pot.
03 - Partially mash potatoes and garlic. Add butter, milk, salt and pepper. Continue mashing to desired consistency.
04 - Fold in sour cream if using. Season to taste and serve topped with butter and chives.
